Frequently Asked Questions
Hopefully your question is answered below, if not, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Are the teams 'Girl's Only' or 'Mixed Gender'?
At Bingham Town Youth FC we are fortunate enough to attract enough Girl's to play football enabling us to provide all girl's teams. We believe this is essential to the development of women's football for the future as girl's are only allowed to play in mixed football up to the age of 11. These girl's must then leave their team to seek a Girl's only team.
What is the age range?
The minimum age for girl's to start training is five. However, we do not advise children to start training until after the Easter of their Reception year as they can be put off by cold weather, preferably, children should be in Year 1. The maximum age for junior football is 16. Any player older than 16 will join our senior squad where we have players any age from 16.
Which team will I be in?
To calculate your team e.g. Under 9, Under 12 etc. First calculate your age as of 31st August. If by 31st August you are 10, you would play for the Under 10's. There are occasions when players play for the team one year above their age group. This may be to keep friends together or due to player numbers excessive or a shortfall of player number in particular age groups. The coaches will advise you of your team either before attending training or when you first come to training.
What do I need for training and matches?
For matches the club will provide a match kit. The player must provide suitable footwear and shin pads. During the winter, when we train on the astroturf, this must be trainers; in the summer months (April to September) molded or screw-in studs are recommended for training on grass. Water or Juice is also essential for training and matches, fizzy drinks should be avoided.
What happens at training?
We run training sessions on a weekly basis. The activities vary between age groups and those leading the training.
For 5 - 7 year olds, we aim to build confidence, co-ordination and team work. As the children progress, emphasis will be placed on building technical ability, tactical awareness and building on speed, strength, stamina and agility.
The emphasis on training is to provide a safe and fun environment for the children to develop their football skills.
How do I get to play matches?
The formality for match selection varies depending on the manager and the teams circumstances at that time e.g. number of players, number of matches remaining etc.
The youngest team playing league games in any season is the Under 8 team. The teams for players younger than this may arrange friendly matches against similar aged teams periodically through the year.
For you to be eligible for a League Match, you must first be registered with the league. Your manager will talk you through this process as soon as they feel you are ready. Again, the managers view on this will depend on the number of girl's in the team etc.
When are the matches?
Matches are usually Sunday mornings, although fixtures do vary from time to time. During the league period, most of the teams will have a match every weekend with a short break for Christmas and Easter. This again varies depending on the number of teams in the league, cancellations etc.
How big is the pitch?
The size of football, pitch and team varies with age. Currently the girl's will play 7 a-side until they have completed the Under 12 season. The Under 13 teams and older play full 11 a-side matches.
The 7 a-side mini game uses smaller goals, smaller pitches and smaller footballs. The length of each half varies from a minimum of 15 minutes to a maximum of 30 minutes. The rules are kept simple as there is no such thing as off-side in this game. You will also notice the omission of the 6 yard box.
The 11 a-side game uses a full size pitch, goal (and football for Under 16's). Includes off-side and is no different to 'normal' football.
Who are the coaches?
The majority of our coaches are usually parents of one or more of the players in the team. All coaches are CRB checked before being permitted to run a group. The club also encourages coaches to attend an FA Course specifically aimed at coaching children.
What if there is an accident?
The club ensures there is a First Aid Volunteer (TFAR) to hand at all times. Our TFAR's must be suitably qualified to a minimum of FA Emergency Aid and successfully passed the CRB check. Every team carries a fully stocked First Aid Kit. In the event of an accident, you will be given an accident report form.
